An elegant neutral interior palette supports an environment for learning, meditation, reflection and inspiration while maintaining mid-century modern design relevance. Accents of blue and red are inspired by the rich hues of monastic robes, and the cruciform patterns in the flooring design are strategically placed to organize paths of circulation versus destination spaces. Each color corresponds with the type of activity per floor. “Red” denotes spaces of activity while “Blue” denotes more restful, calming, and reflective spaces.

VergesRome Architects was selected to complete the 19,539 square foot renovation of the Howard Tilton Memorial Library basement to the relocated and expanded Testing and Tutoring Centers. Flooding of the Howard Tilton Memorial Library Basement has been an issue for years. In the recent build-out of the basement classrooms, Goldman Testing Center, and the Tutoring Center, flood mitigation systems were implemented to help prevent future flooding. Furthermore, interior finishes and furniture were carefully selected to withstand the effect of water damage in the event of future flooding. It was also important that the new interiors be designed in keeping with the overall design direction of the modern additions to the campus.

The new 12,520 sf facility includes a medical clinic with 16 exam rooms, a dental clinic with 8 exam rooms, a pharmacy and a break room with adjacent conference room. The design concept was to create a building to serve as a beacon for the community. The main entrance winged canopy draws patients to the building offering a double height lobby space that provides a grand arrival space before entering the clinics or visiting the pharmacy. The functional program is an extension of the healthcare services provided throughout the InclusivCare health network and this facility acts as a hub for the Marrero community. In addition to the healthcare spaces, a community room was provided with a separate entrance to allow for after hours community meetings and functions onsite.
